'Real Housewives of Potomac' star Karen Huger found guilty of DUI, bodycam videos released
"The Real Housewives of Potomac" star Karen Huger has been convicted of driving under the influence.
Huger, 61, on Wednesday was found guilty of DUI, negligent driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, and failure to notify of a change in address, but was acquitted of reckless driving, following a March car accident, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office confirmed Thursday to USA TODAY. A sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 29.
USA TODAY has reached out to Huger's reps for comment.
"Driving under the influence is extremely dangerous behavior. We prosecute thousands of D.U.I. cases every year and take them seriously," state's attorney John McCarthy told USA TODAY in a statement Thursday. Huger's "case was not handled any differently based on the facts and her traffic history. We encourage the public to always drive sober and practice safety on the roads," McCarthy said.
Huger's attorney, A. Scott Bolden, told People magazine that "we are disappointed in the jury's verdict" but "continue to reserve Mrs. Huger's right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf."

Huger was charged in March after crashing a vehicle while driving in Potomac, Maryland. The TV personality "crossed a median and struck street signs," a representative for the Montgomery County Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY at the time.

In body-cam videos shown during the trial, Huger refused to take a sobriety test but acknowledged she had been drinking before the accident and should have "probably taken a cab."
The reality star repeatedly asked officers if they knew who she was and appeared to slur her words as she said she is "really rich" and "Thomas Jefferson's concubine."
The footage also showed Huger telling an officer he would be "ashamed" when he Googles her.
In a statement to TMZ in March, Huger said she was having dinner with a friend, during which they "brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics," before the accident.

"I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider and then a tree. I'm hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive!"
She continued: "I did receive citations, one of which was unrelated to the incident which is understandable, but what was most surprising is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!"
Huger encouraged fans to "understand your emotional state" when driving, telling TMZ her accident should also "be a reminder to all to use their seatbelts" because "my mother may be my guardian angel, but the seatbelt saved my life."
