Randy Moss Breaks Down in Return to Live TV Amid Health Battle

Former NFL star Randy Moss, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018, returned to live television for the Super Bowl on Feb. 9 after going through a personal health crisis.

Moss finally came back to Sunday NFL Countdown for the big game, with the NFL sharing a long tribute to the former player that featured kind words from friends and former teammates such as Tom Brady and Daunte Culpepper. Others who appeared in the video included Bill Belichick, Jerry Rice and Justin Jefferson, among others.

"You're a brother to me, I love you more than anything in this world and it's so great to have you back," said Brady in his personal message to Moss. "For as great as you were on the field in showing everybody the strength and resilience of how you performed over the course of your hall-of-fame career, you've impressed and inspired us more than anything in what you've done off the field, man."

After the tribute concluded, the camera panned to Moss at the desk, where he was wiping away tears as he said, "You already know it's the big crybaby here, man."

"I couldn't do it alone...It's been hard but I've got a lot of love and a lot of people believing in me," Moss went on, before kicking off the show.

At the start of December 2024, Moss shared on Instagram that he was “battling something internally” as he warned people to "go get ur checkups." An announcement came days later saying that he would be taking a break from his role at ESPN.

Soon after, Moss revealed on an Instagram Live that doctors found a cancerous mass in his bile duct and he had to undergo surgery to get it removed, while he also had a stent put in his liver. He later underwent another surgery—the Whipple procedure—and appeared to be doing well.
