R.I.P., Jamie? Yellowstone’s Wes Bentley ‘Was Waiting for That Dreaded Script to Come Along’
It’s a given that in Season 5B of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone, there will be blood. The question is, whose? Given that the midseason finale found Beth plotting with daddy John to take out Jamie, aka the black sheep of the Dutton clan, the smart money’s on him meeting his maker. But “I thought Jamie was going to be killed off in Season 2,” Wes Bentley tells TVLine. “I was waiting for that dreaded script to come along [saying] that Jamie would be gone, because it just felt like that kind of a character.
“That’s been the journey the entire time,” he adds, “and I don’t want to say anything about this season, but it was no different. I was sitting there like, ‘Am I still here?’”

Enlarging the target on Jamie’s back is the fact that promos for the new episodes (which begin airing Sunday at 8/7c) reveal that he pulls a big-time backstab on treacherous girlfriend Sarah. That alone could seal his fate, Bentley acknowledges. “But Jamie’s a target for a few people right now. But if you crossed Sarah, you would definitely become [one for her].”
However curdled Jamie and Sarah’s partnership may become, Bentley has loved working with leading lady Dawn Olivieri. “That’s a really interesting dynamic with Sarah. It’s hard to read from season 5A what’s going on between them. Is it genuine? Is one playing the other? Are they actually connecting and going to become a power couple or something crazy like that?
“It’s a lot of fun to play, because Dawn is a great actor and brings a lot to those scenes,” he adds. “It’s such a joy working with her. Something fun that’s coming in the new season is seeing what that dynamic really is, how it plays out and what it really was.”
What do you think? Does Jamie survive Season 5B? Answer in the comments.
