R. Kelly to tour in Australia despite sex abuse allegations

Social media is in uproar after finding out R&B artist R. Kelly is planning on touring Australia and New Zealand, despite currently facing allegations of sexual misconduct.

R. Kelly has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct involving women and underage girls, including those made in a recent documentary.

But that doesn’t mean people are excited to potentially see him in concert.

“See y’all soon,” he said in a tweet, announcing a potential tour to Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

It didn’t take long after the announcement for the #metoo and #muterkelly hashtags to start appearing on Twitter, with plenty of people not wanting him to tour.

“Stay away from NZ. You ain’t welcome here,” one person tweeted.

“No, No, Thank you,” another said.

Some even pointed out that Australia has a long history of denying visas, and it could be likely that immigration will ban Kelly from entering the country.

The ‘Ignition’ singer is facing a string of allegations against him that date all the way back to the ’90s.

The explosive new documentary, Surviving R. Kelly, comes after the BBC’s R.Kelly: Sex, Girls & Videotapes, which was released last year.

Activists on social media movements have seized on the renewed attention to call for streaming services to drop Kelly’s music and promoters not to book any more concerts.
