Queen and royal family go head-to-head with the Sussexes

The Queen and senior members of the royal family are reportedly set to go head-to-head with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with their own TV special.

Last week, it was announced that the Sussexes sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all interview, which is set to be aired on March 7th.

And now, it’s been revealed that senior members of the royal family will appear on their own TV program to discuss the importance of the Commonwealth, on the same day Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview will hit screens.

Usually, the Queen and royals attend a Commonwealth Day service at London's Westminster Abbey to mark the occasion, however, due to the pandemic, things will look very different this year.

According to reports, the 94-year-old Queen, along with Prince Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton will appear in a A Celebration for Commonwealth Day on the BBC.

The show is said to be airing just hours before Meghan and Harry’s highly-anticipated interview with megastar Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan and Harry's TV special is set to be a 90-minute special to air on US channel CBS.

“Winfrey will speak with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work, to how she is handling life under intense public pressure,” the statement from CBS revealed.

“Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”

Royals unaware of Oprah plans

In a statement to the press, Buckingham Palace hinted the royals had no idea of the pair's move, simply stating Harry and Meghan are under no obligation to inform them of their plans.

“As non working members of the royal family they are under no obligation to inform the royal household of such plans,” the palace said in the statement.

The very short response from the palace indicates that the Oprah interview hadn't reached any royal ears before news broke, and with everything on the table from pregnancy to Harry and Meghan's royal exit, it looks like an inside glimpse at the workings of the family could be on the cards.
