Queen Mary of Denmark Brings Pop of Color to King Frederik X’s Birthday Celebrations in Pink Pleated Midi Dress

Queen Mary of Denmark celebrated King Frederik X’s 56th birthday on Saturday, joining her husband on the balcony of Frederik VIII’s Palace in Copenhagen to wave to well-wishers and pose for photos. The royal fashioned an elegant, yet understated, look for the occasion.

Queen Mary of Denmark opted for a pop of color for her husband’s birthday celebrations, fashioning a long-sleeve pleated midi dress in pink by No.21. The dress featured pleated detailing on the bottom half of the skirt. Queen Mary’s dress included a cinched waist with flowing sleeves cinched at the cuff.

When it came to her accessories, Queen Mary opted for subtle pieces of jewelry in shades of gold. Her hair was done in long, flowing curls that perfectly framed her face. Queen Mary’s makeup featured a bold eye and soft pink lip.

Queen Mary of Denmark’s recent pop of color is a contrast to some of the darker hues she’s worn previously. For an early excursion to Fredensborg Castle in Fredensborg on May 2, the royal took a cue from some nautical inspiration for her travel wardrobe.

Upon boarding The Royal Ship Dannebrog in Copenhagen, Queen Mary wore an Iris and Ink Alison polka-dot satin midi dress in navy blue and white. She continued the color palette with a pair of navy pumps by Gianvito Rossi and a white veil headpiece by Maggie Mowbray Millinery.

Upon arriving to Fredensborg Castle, Queen Mary changed her outfit for a second look for the welcoming ceremonies. Maintaining her nautical theme, Queen Mary wore a top by Boss in white along with a coordinated jacket by Harris Wharf London. She also fashioned a pair of wide-leg dark trousers with a belt by Etro.

Queen Mary’s sartorial statements have, like many European royal women, combined classic and traditional silhouettes and cuts with a modern twist. The royal has also been seen wearing a trend that’s been popularized by royal women for decades: the power suit. From nautical-inspired attire to pops of color and pantsuits, Queen Mary represents a type of modern royal woman who embraces tradition without sacrificing her own authentic style sensibility.
