Queen Camilla Says King Charles Is 'Getting Better' amid Cancer Treatment — But Adds a Quippy Caveat
The Queen had a little warning for her husband during a solo day out celebrating literature
King Charles is back to taking on public royal duties amid his cancer treatment, but Queen Camilla had a little warning for her husband during her latest outing.
Giving an update on the 75-year-old monarch's health, the Queen told guests at a garden party at Lamb House in Rye on May 16 that the King was "getting better," according to royal reporter Roya Nikkhah. However, Queen Camilla, 76, then added, "Well, he would if he behaved himself."
Although she didn't elaborate, Queen Camilla and other royal family members have previously shared that King Charles was disappointed to slow down on duties amid his cancer treatment. The monarch's nephew Peter Phillips said on Sky News Australia's The Royal Report in March that the King was "frustrated that he can't get on and do everything that he wants to be able to do."
“He is always pushing, his staff and everybody and his doctors and nurses to be able to say, 'Actually, can I do this? Can I do that?' " Peter continued of his uncle. “So the overriding message would be that he's obviously very keen to get back to a form of normality."
A royal source told PEOPLE in March, "One thing that has been wholly undiminished is his appetite for work."
On April 30, King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the Macmillan Cancer Centre at the University College Hospital London, marking his first public engagement since the palace announced on Feb. 5 that he had cancer.
"I think he was really thrilled to be out," Queen Camilla said the following day.
During his first solo engagement on May 9, King Charles even quipped that he was glad to be “out of my cage."
Queen Camilla's comment came during a solo day out in Sussex celebrating literature. At the Charleston Festival, she was asked by a child about a fictional place she'd like to visit.
"The one place I won't be going to is the Cat in the Hat," she replied to laughs from the crowd.
She continued, "One place I think I’d love to go to is Hogwarts," referring to the school for witches and wizards from the Harry Potter books. She elaborated that she'd like to ride the Hogwarts Express, visit the Great Hall, be put into a house by the sorting hat and see the moving portraits hung around the castle.
"I think it'd be a proper magical experience," she said.

Queen Camilla previously shared her love of Harry Potter, including reading the book series with her five grandchildren. However, she admitted that King Charles was more talented when it came to speaking in different voices for characters.
"I can’t mimic voices for love or money, I’m completely hopeless at it," she said in the first episode of The Queen’s Reading Room Podcast, released earlier this year. "I was a really bad actor at school, and I’ve never been able to master the art of mimicry. But my husband, he does it brilliantly. He can do all the voices."
