Queen Camilla Reportedly Looks to This Late Royal for Inspiration
When Queen Camilla needs a role model, she apparently looks to a late member of the British royal family—at least, according to someone close to her.
Gyles Brandreth, an author and friend of Camilla, recently spoke with Hello! and revealed that the 77-year-old has borrowed the motto of a relative of high importance to her husband, King Charles III.
“A couple of years ago, I hosted a lunch for Queen Camilla's 75th birthday," Brandreth told the publication in a piece published on Tuesday, July 23. "The Queen made a good speech about her role in the future and said she was going to use the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, as her role model. She quoted his mantra, which was simply: 'Look up, look out, say less, do more, get on with the job.'"
The podcaster and author went on, joking, "My wife said to me recently: 'You keep quoting this, Gyles, but you don't seem to be saying less at all–you seem to be saying more as the years go by.' But I am trying to do more and get on with the job."
Prince Philip's phrase may naturally lend itself to Camilla's professional experience as a working royal, but it could also be the secret to her late father-in-law's long-lasting marriage to Queen Elizabeth II.
The royal couple first exchanged vows in November 1947, and went on to become the longest marriage of any British monarch, lasting for over 73 years until Philip passed away in 2021, at the age of 99.
Elizabeth died a little over a year after her husband in September 2022. She was 96. Along with Charles, the two also welcomed sons, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, and a daughter, Princess Anne.
