Queen Camilla Opts for Black-and-white Dressing for First 2024 Buckingham Palace Garden Party With King Charles

Queen Camilla joined members of the British royal family for the first garden party at Buckingham Palace in London on Wednesday. The event celebrated members of the United Kingdom’s creative industries, with guests who work in film, fashion, TV, radio and more cultural outlets on the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

For the daytime occasion, Queen Camilla opted for black-and-white dressing. The queen consort fashioned a long-sleeve midi dress with a pleated skirt by Fiona Clare. The frock featured ornate details, including four black, pinstripe lines running along the bodice and skirt of the dress.

Queen Camilla paired the look with a coordinating hat, which featured a spherical design of black-and-white, plume-like bands of structured appliqués. The queen consort completed the look with color-blocked heels, ideal for walking the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

The event marks King Charles III’s first garden party at Buckingham Palace following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis last February. Queen Camilla and King Charles were joined by the king’s brother, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, along with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester for the day’s festivities.

Queen Camilla’s black-and-white dressing is a departure from her recent animal print looks. On Tuesday, the queen consort attended the opening of the 50th Coronation Library at Moreland Primary School, for which she wore a peacock print dress with blue jewel tones by Fiona Clare. On April 30, Queen Camilla fashioned a leopard print frock courtesy of the same designer — a favorite of the royal — while accompanying King Charles III for his first royal engagement since publicly disclosing his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Garden parties are a staple event at Buckingham Palace during the spring and summer seasons. Wednesday’s event marks the queen consort’s maiden garden party of 2024, and her wardrobe might indicate what she will fashion for the rest of the season. Statement hats and color-block looks might be worn by Queen Camilla in the months ahead.
