Princess Mary coming to Australia for Invictus Games

Princess Mary is set to be making a surprise trip down under for the Invictus Games next month.

Joining Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Australia in October, Aussie-born Princess Mary along with her husband, Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark, are on the guest list for the games, The Sunday Telegraph reports.

The royals will be on the sidelines alongside celebrity A-listers, including Invictus Games ambassador David Beckham, wife Victoria Beckham and the couple’s children.

David Beckham recently shared his excitement on social media, saying he can’t “wait to be part of the energy and excellence of the Games this year”.

A host of Australians were also announced as ambassadors for the Games, including Olympic gold medallists Anna Meares and Ian Thorpe.

It was confirmed in June that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be in the country for the 2018 Invictus Games, which are being held in Sydney.

The Invictus Games are an international adaptive multi-sport event, created by Prince Harry, in which wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans compete in various sports such as wheelchair basketball, and indoor rowing.

A statement by Kensington Palace revealed the couple will not only visit Australia together, but will also be heading over to Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, and New Zealand.

They will be in Sydney for the opening ceremony and are expected to stay for a couple of days before checking out some other sites around the country. Brisbane is one possibility, according to Sunrise royal editor Rob Jobson.

Princess Mary’s trip home will be her second in less than a year with the future Queen of Denmark spending last Christmas in Australia with Prince Frederik and their four children.

Mary and her husband were spotted sailing in Sydney shortly before Christmas.

The couple and their four children spent the Christmas holidays in Mary’s home state of Tasmania, but not before they indulged in one of Frederik’s favourite hobbies.
