Despite the family-wide emphasis on privacy that keeps much of British royal life behind closed doors, every once in a while the public gets a peek behind the scenes. This week, that behind-the-scenes look came courtesy of Princess Eugenie, who shared a rare glimpse into her life with her children, August and Ernest, and her mother, Sarah Ferguson, on Instagram.

"The start of the Christmas countdown was made even more magical this year by having some granny and mummy time at @windsorilluminated," she wrote in her caption. "I’d love to hear what festive things you get up to."

The carousel of videos and images was captured at the Windsor Great Park Illuminated, a special holiday season lights display that visitors can explore via a forest trail "full of music and light." Prior to their visit, Eugenie had posted only a handful of photos of her children in the past year, including a snapshot from a family holiday to Portugal.

Both Eugenie and Ferguson posed bare-faced for their Windsor Park selfie. The carousel also featured two videos of the mother-daughter duo walking with Eugenie's kids.

The Princess's festive post comes at a tense time for the British royal family, however. From Prince Andrew's eviction drama to the rift between Prince Harry and Prince William, Eugenie—alongside her sister, Beatrice—has often been caught in the middle. As for the latter issue, the sisters have, at times, been the "go-to" royals during the brothers's ongoing feud.

"Eugenie is in a difficult spot because she's always been close to Harry, but she is extremely mindful that this relationship could rock the boat with the rest of her family," a source told The Express. "It's a rather precarious position for her to be in and one that requires a delicate balancing act."
