How do you pronounce Princess Eugenie’s name?

The emphasis is on the first syllable, so it’s pronounced ‘YOO-jen-ee.’ She has previously said: “Whenever we used to meet foreign people who were struggling with it, my mum and I would help them by saying, 'It's like use your knees.’ But whatever. I am now used to every pronunciation."

Princess Eugenie’s scoliosis

Eugenie was 11 when she was diagnosed with scoliosis, a curvature of the spine which can affect movement and be very painful. She was operated on when she was 12, and had titanium rods put in her back, meaning her life was put on hold for several months while she recovered.

“There are so many emotions and worries that go thundering through your head,” she has previously said of her diagnosis and operation. “Will I be able to play sports, or will I look the same, or will I miss a lot of school and be behind? I think the most upsetting time was before the operation – the fear of the unknown and having a condition that made me different. Afterwards, I couldn’t move for a while in hospital or when I came home. I had to wear a neck brace and be moved very gently in bed for a few months. That was very frustrating and I remember being angry about not being able to run and play.”

She eventually recovered and has been able to lead a normal life, She is patron of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where she supports other children who have had similar procedures.

Who is Princess Eugenie married to?

Eugenie’s husband is Jack Brooksbank, a British wine merchant, who used to be manager of infamous London nightclub Mahiki. The pair are half-third cousins, twice-removed.

They married on 12 October 2018 after getting engaged on 22 January that year. They had been dating for seven years after meeting at Swiss ski resort Verbier, where Jack was working.

The couple got married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Who designed Princess Eugenie’s wedding dress?

Princess Eugenie’s wedding dress was made by Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos, of British-based label Peter Pilotto. Made from silk, it had a low back at her request, as a way of showing people the scars from her childhood scoliosis operation.

“I had always wanted a low back, part of it was showing my scar,” she said. “I believe scars tell a story about your past and your future and it’s a way of getting rid of a taboo. For me it’s a way of communicating with people who are going through either similar situations with scoliosis or having a scar of their own that they are trying to deal with.”

She wore a second silk dress for the evening reception, made by her friend Zac Posen, which was inspired by a dress worn by Grace Kelly.

“I wanted something reminiscent of Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief so I showed that for reference and Zac came up with this silk that he’d found from Manchester. Every single draping effect, every single detail, every button, it’s all painstakingly done by him and his team,” she said.

No, although Sarah Ferguson has said that Eugenie will be “thrilled” to have children one day.

Where does Princess Eugenie live?

Eugenie and Jack live in Ivy Cottage, a private residence in the grounds of Kensington Palace. It’s close to St James’ Palace, where Beatrice and her husband Edo live. It’s believed to have three bedrooms, and has been redecorated by Eugenie and Jack. It’s a grace and favour property, which means it is owned by the Crown estate, rather than personally owned by Eugenie.

What does Princess Eugenie do for a living?

Eugenie isn’t a working royal, so is not entitled to royal money to fund her lifestyle, although she does carry out some public engagements which are linked to the charities she works with. She works as a director at London art gallery Hauser & Wirth, where she says she is involved with “planning special projects” and “supporting the artists in the gallery and managing events.”

She studied English Literature and Art History at Newcastle University in England. “I knew I definitely wouldn’t be a painter, but I knew this was the industry for me. I love being able to share my passion for art with people,” she has said.

Although it was reportedly the plan that Princess Eugenie and her sister Beatrice would take on more royal engagements over the coming years – with Prince Andrew lobbying for his daughters to have a greater involvement in the royal family’s public life – now his name has been brought in to disrepute, it’s likely Beatrice and Eugenie will only ever attend the occasional royal engagement, and their roles will not be expanded.

She was forced to postpone the launch of the charity’s podcast after it was suggested to be hypocritical considering Prince Andrew’s alleged involvement with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Has Princess Eugenie ever commented on Prince Andrew’s friendship with Jeffery Epstein?

No. Despite reports both sisters have been “deeply distressed” by the allegations against their father, Eugenie publicly wished Prince Andrew a Happy Father’s Day on her Instagram page earlier this year – to which she was trolled by people denouncing his actions.

It’s believed the royal family are very protective of Beatrice and Eugenie, and “want to protect them from this hurt and from further hurt.” Apparently “the Queen is particularly fond of Beatrice and Eugenie.”
