Princess Beatrice's Husband's Wedding Anniversary Tribute Reveals a New Detail About Her Bridal Style

The romantic photo showed their royal kiss — and Princess Beatrice's wedding outfit from a whole new angle

Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's tribute to Princess Beatrice on the fourth anniversary of their royal wedding shared a new detail about her bridal style.

On July 17, the 40-year-old property developer posted a previously unseen photo from their wedding day in 2020, which showed Princess Beatrice's veil in full for the first time. The couple held hands and kissed below a canopy of trees while wearing their wedding finery: a morning suit for Edo and a vintage dress from Queen Elizabeth's royal wardrobe for Beatrice.

While Princess Beatrice, 35, memorably wore her grandmother's ivory Peau de Soie taffeta dress by Norman Hartnell (the designer behind the Queen's own wedding gown) and the same Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara that Queen Elizabeth glittered in when she married Prince Philip in 1947, the specifics of her veil were unclear until now. As seen in the shot Edo posted on Instagram for their anniversary, Beatrice wore a plain white waltz-length veil with fingertip-length layers.

Princess Beatrice's wedding veil was not displayed alongside her dress when it was exhibited at Windsor Castle in the fall of 2020. The exhibit, which Beatrice went to see, featured the vintage Norman Hartnell dress with Beatrice's metallic Valentino wedding heels and a recreation of her bridal bouquet, but no veil.

Kate Middleton and  Meghan Markle's veils were both displayed with their wedding gowns when the dresses were exhibited at Buckingham Palace in 2011 and Windsor Castle in 2018, respectively.

Princess Beatrice's sister, Princess Eugenie, skipped a veil when she married Jack Brooksbank in October 2018, and the low back of her gown showed her scoliosis scar. Eugenie opened up about the specific decision to go with an open back on her wedding day in the audio guide that accompanied her bridal look during its display at Windsor Castle in 2019, mentioning that she "always wanted" to show her scar to help smash taboos.

In addition to two new photos from the big day — a second snap showed the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge in Windsor, where the couple tied the knot — Edo's anniversary post came with a loving message.

"Happy 4th wedding anniversary my love. 💍," he captioned the Instagram post. "Every day is so special with you. I love you so much. 💕"

Like many couples during the COVID-19 pandemic, Princess Beatrice and Edo rearranged their wedding plans, opting to tie the knot in a scaled-down ceremony with a smaller guest list than originally envisioned. The couple canceled the plans for their May 29, 2020, nuptials before it was announced as a surprise that they walked down the aisle that July 17. They exchanged vows in front of 20 close friends and family members, including Beatrice's grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, following pandemic gathering guidelines during the socially distanced ceremony.

"It was very private, intimate and romantic," a source told PEOPLE at the time. ​​"It was planned for some time, and everyone had to be extremely cautious leading up to the big day because the Queen was in attendance. They had to make sure everyone who was attending was in perfect health."

The date of the wedding "was all about the Queen's schedule," the source said, where her granddaughter wore the tiara always "reserved" for her.

"The Queen saved this grand tiara specifically for Beatrice. It was always reserved for her as they are exceptionally close," the source told PEOPLE.

In September 2021, Princess Beatrice and Edo honored Queen Elizabeth upon the birth of their first child, a daughter who they named Sienna Elizabeth. The new addition made Beatrice and Edo a family of four, as he shares a young son Christopher Woolf with his former partner Dara Huang.

Princess Beatrice and Edo's announcement of Sienna's name proudly added that "Wolfie is the best big brother to Sienna."
