Princess Beatrice engaged to boyfriend of 11 months

Princess Beatrice is engaged.

The 31-year-old daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson is set to marry her boyfriend of 11 months Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi next year.

The couple became engaged during a weekend away in Italy earlier this month.

Edo, as Mapelli Mozzi is known to his friends, is a property developer and the son of British alpine skier Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi and Nikki Shale.

The 36-year-old works as the CEO of Banda Property, which he founded in 2007.

Families’ delight

The spouses-to-be showed their delight when speaking in reference to their happy news, which comes after decades-long friendship which saw them first meet as children.

“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement,” the couple said in a statement.

“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.”

Newlywed Princess Eugenie paid tribute to her only sister on Instagram, writing with delight how she reacted to the couple’s big news.

“Beabea - wow! I'm so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo,” she captioned the snaps.

“It's been a long time coming and you two are meant to be.”

Proud parents, the Duke and Duchess of York also shared in their daughter and future son-in-law’s joy.

“We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride,” they said in a statement.

“We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal.”

Sarah followed her official words up with an emotional Instagram caption which accompanied black and white snaps of the couple.

“I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy. I am so proud of this sensational news,” she wrote.

“Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law.”

Similarly, Edo’s parents joined in the celebration, noting how they are ‘truly delighted’ by the celebrations.

“Our family has known Beatrice for most of her life. Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see,” they said.

“[The couple] share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship.”

Not Edo’s first engagement

Edo was previously engaged to Chinese-American architect Dara Huang and the pair share a toddler son, Christopher ‘Wolfie’ Woolf.

The pair parted ways last year, shortly before he began dating Beatrice.

Relations between the former couple are said to be amicable with Edo telling The Telegraph last year about how they co-parent the toddler.

“I take [Christopher] to school a couple of mornings a week and finish in time to put him in bed three or four evenings,” he said.

Beatrice and Edo were first pictured together for the first time after Eugenie’s October 2018 wedding, but made their public debut as a couple at a National Portrait Gallery gala in March 2019.

Following this, they jointly attended Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding to Thomas Kingston at Windsor Castle in May 2019 and Ellie Goulding’s star-studded York Minster wedding at the end of August 2019.

It’s unclear how long they’ve been dating, but reports of the couple first surfaced in October 2018. They’ve reportedly lived together at St. James’ Palace for some time.

Beatrice is ninth in line to the throne, the Queen’s sixth youngest grandchild and Andrew and Fergie’s oldest child. Beatrice’s younger sister, Eugenie, 29, wed her partner Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle in October 2018.

Beatrice’s previous relationship

Edo is believed to be Beatrice’s first serious relationship since ending things with former boyfriend, Dave Clark, in 2016.

Beatrice and Clark dated for 10 years and were reportedly introduced by Prince William at a birthday party hosted by Pierce Brosnan’s son, Sean.

The break-up was said to be “amicable and mutual.”

Clark married his partner of two years, advertising executive Lynn Anderson, in Puglia, Italy, in July 2018. The A-list packed guest list included actor Ashton Kutcher and model Sara Sampaio.
