Royal calls for Donald Trump to be removed from office
A European royal, who counts Queen Elizabeth as his third cousin, has taken to social media to publically call for outgoing US president Donald Trump to be removed from office following Thursday’s pro-Trump riot in the US Capitol.
Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece broke royal protocol to address the political unrest in America in a fiery tweet in which he urged the US government to invoke the 25th amendment and impeach Trump.
“When a President accepts and encourages such behaviour by the public he should no longer be president and the 25th amendment should be invoked,” the 53-year-old wrote.
“This is an embarrassment to democracy and to the Republic of the United States of America,” he added.
Prince Pavlos echoed this sentiment on his Instagram Stories where he shared a similar message stating that Trump was a ‘disgrace’.

“I’m not normally political here, but the events we have seen today in Washington DC are what the 25th amendment was designed for.
“The President has disgraced the highest office and the Democracy it stands for.”
The Crown Prince is not the only high-profile person to speak out about the astonishing scenes in Washington, D.C., that saw a pro-Trump mob breach the US Capitol building and ended with the shooting death of one woman.
The likes of Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness, actor Kerry Washington and singer Pink took to social media to have their say on the unfolding chaos.
Members of the British royal family, however, have not commented on the incident, which has widely been condemned as an ‘attack on democracy’.
Royal ties
Prince Pavlos has close ties with the House of Windsor through both the Queen (via her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria) and her husband, Prince Philip, who is Pavlos’ first cousin, twice removed.
Pavlos and Philip, who renounced his birth title as the Prince and Greece and Denmark when he married, are related via Pavlos’ late father, King Constantine II, who was the last King of Greece.
Prince Charles is, therefore, Pavlos’ second cousin, once removed and Prince William is godfather to his eldest son, Prince Constantine. Unlike his British relatives, Prince Pavlos will never take the throne because the Greek monarchy was abolished in 1973.
Pavlos also has a direct link to the Danish royal family via his maternal aunt, Queen Margrethe II making him first cousins with Danish Prince Frederik.
The Crown Prince shares five children with his wife of 15 years, British-born heiress Marie-Chantal. The pair were accompanied by their daughter, model Princess Olympia, at Princess Eugenie’s 2018 wedding to Jack Brooksbank where they sat front-row in the chapel.
