Why Prince Harry will spend Valentine's Day away from Meghan Markle
It may be their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to spend ‘the most romantic day of the year’ apart.
The royals, who married in May at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, will actually be in separate countries on the day.
Kensington Palace has confirmed that Prince Harry will be visiting Exercise Clockwork – which trains Royal Marines extreme cold conditions – in Norway on February 14.
“The Duke of Sussex, Captain General @RoyalMarines, will visit Exercise Clockwork to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the operation in Bardufoss, Norway on Thursday 14th February. (sic),” a tweet from the palace read.
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex is set to remain at home at Kensington Palace, where she’s preparing for the arrival of their first child.
Last year, the couple visited Edinburgh Castle on Valentine’s Day and a cafe run by a youth organisation called SocialBite, which helps young people dealing with homelessness.
Just months before that, Meghan, who was still working in Hollywood at the time, claimed she is a ‘sucker’ for Valentine’s Day on her blog, The Tig, and was ‘waiting with bated breath to be dipped into a kiss’.
She continued on her blog, saying her dream Valentine’s Day would happen in Paris, starting with breakfast in bed and ending with a beet cheesecake.
The former actress also revealed the long list of presents she would both love to receive and gifts she would buy for her other half.
When it came to herself, she listed a love coupon for some ‘high-class romance’, a set of Heidi Klum Intimates bra and bottoms and a Kate Spade tray, as well as Jo Malone cologne and a luggage tag with the slogan: “Some Roads Are Not Meant to be Traveled Alone’.
Meanwhile for the special someone in her life, she included a ‘Hello There Handsome’ pillow, socks, headphones, a poker set and a beer making kit.
“What’s the second best thing your man could wake up to (besides your beautiful face, of course)? A smile-inducing pillow that’ll remind him what you think of him every single day,” Markle wrote in her blog, alongside her description of the pillow.
The American also posted a recipe to her beet cheesecake on her blog, which she claims is the perfect Valentine’s Day dessert.
And while Meghan now has Prince Harry to keep her company for Valentine’s Day, she also revealed in 2916 how to celebrate the day if you’re on your own.
“I think you need to cook that beautiful dinner even when it’s just you, wear your favourite outfit, buy yourself some flowers, and celebrate the self love that often gets muddled when we focus on what we don’t have,” she wrote.
“This Valentine’s Day I will be with friends, running amock through the streets of New York, likely imbibing some cocktail that’s oddly pink, and jumping over icy mounds in my new shoes through the salted snowy streets of the West Village.”
Meghan wasn’t in New York last year though. As she was of course with her now husband, Prince Harry.
We can only assume Harry took all Meghan’s hints into consideration and the lovebirds had a very ‘high class’ Valentine’s Day.
