Harry says William and Charles are 'trapped' in the royal institution
Prince Harry has claimed his brother, Prince William, and father, Prince Charles, are ‘trapped’ in the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, opened up to Oprah Winfrey in an explosive interview aired on CBS in the US.
During the two-hour chat, the Sussexes didn’t hold back, laying their truth out on the table about the reasons they stepped back from their roles as senior royals within the royal family.
When Oprah asked Prince Harry if he thinks he would have left the family and the UK if he hadn’t met Meghan, he replied saying: "The answer to your question is no, [I wouldn't have left,].”
"I wouldn't have been able to because I myself was trapped. I didn't see a way out. I was trapped, but I didn't know I was trapped. But the moment that I met Meg, and our worlds collided in the most amazing of ways and then [I began] to see how trapped within the system, like, the rest of my family are. My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don't get to leave, and I have huge compassion for that."

When asked how his late mother, Princess Diana, would think of how everything has panned out for him and Meghan, Harry replied: "I think she would feel very angry with how this has panned out and very sad, but ultimately all she'd ever want is for us to be happy.”
During the candid interview, Prince Harry also revealed to Oprah that his father, future King, Prince Charles, stopped taking his calls when they decided to move away.
"I took matters into my own hands," Harry said.
"It was like, I need to do this for my family. This is not a surprise to anybody; it's really sad that it's got to this point, but I've got to do something for my own mental health, for my wife's, because I could see where this is headed."
When asked by Oprah how his relationship with his father is now, Prince Harry said: “I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar, he knows what pain feels like, (and) Archie’s his grandson.
“But at the same time – I will always love him – but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened and I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship.
“But they only know what they know, or what they’re told.”
Prince Harry also said that he and Prince William’s relationship needs ‘space’ at the moment, but stressed that he will always love his brother.
"I love William to bits, he’s my brother, we’ve been through hell together, we have a shared experience, but we were on different paths.”
"The relationship is space at the moment. And time heals all things, hopefully.”
