Prince Harry's heartache as godmother dies

Prince Harry will be left saddened by the news of his godmother, Lady Celia Vestey’s sudden death at the age of 71.

Lady Vestey’s death was announced in a notice published in the UK’s Daily Telegraph by family.

“Celia Elizabeth SRN BA,” the notice read. “Died suddenly, but peacefully, on Saturday 28th November, aged 71 years.”

“Adored wife of Sam. Much loved mother of William, Arthur and Mary and loving Granny of Ella, Frankie, Sam and Cosima.

“Private family funeral. Memorial service later.

“Family flowers only please, but donations gratefully received in Celia's memory to Ebony Horse Club.”

Reports suggest Harry reached out to Lady Vestey’s children in wake of the news.

Lady Vestey was one of Harry’s six godparents.

Prince Andrew, Princess Anne’s daughter Lady Sarah Chatto, Carolyn Bartholomew, Bryan Organ, Gerald Ward, and Celia were all present as godparent’s at Harry’s christening in 1984.

Lady Vestey attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018 and was a close friend of Queen Elizabeth II for many years and part of the inner royal circle.

Her oldest son was a page of honour to the Queen for three years. She was also in attendance at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s in 2011.

She was married to Samuel Vestey, the 3rd Baron Vestey. She is survived by three children and three grandchildren.
