How long you need to walk to halve your heart attack risk
Here’s your incentive to finish your day with a quick stroll.
New research has found than just 25 minutes of brisk walking per day could add seven years to your life.
Moderate exercise could also halve the risk of heart attack in people in their 50s and 60s. The research was presented to the European Society of Cardiology Congress and indicates that maintaining a regular (that’s almost daily) exercise routine could delay the body’s ageing process.
During the study, men and women aged 30 to 60 were placed on a daily fitness program. The researchers then tracked key markers of ageing in the blood of each participant – none of whom had been regular exercisers before the study.
They discovered that within six months, there were changes in the body that helped repair DNA.
This piece of research is the latest in a long line of studies highlighting the benefits of regular exercise on the ageing process.
