Pregnant Bindi Irwin's 'tears of joy' after telling husband Chandler

Bindi Irwin has taken to Instagram to reveal the touching way she broke the news that she was pregnant to her new husband, Chandler Powell.

On Wednesday, the 22-year-old conservationist shared a snap of the pair — who wed in secret at Australia Zoo in March — holding their pet pooch, Piggy, along with a heartfelt caption detailing the moment she found out she was expecting.

“Reflecting on when we found out that we are going to be parents.

“Discovering that I was going to become a mother will forever be a moment where time stood still. I took a test and ran into the kitchen where Chandler was making us tea. He didn’t hear me come in so I speechlessly watched him pouring the water into my most loved hedgehog mug.

“This news would change the course of our future in the best way. I started crying tears of pure joy and told my sweetheart husband that my test was positive.”

‘Our little Wildlife Warrior’

Bindi, who announced her and Chandler’s baby news back in August, went on to describe how the excited parents-to-be discussed their future over a cuppa.

“In that short span of time the gorgeous baby I'm carrying became the most important part of our lives,” she wrote.

“And we already love our little Wildlife Warrior with all of our hearts,” added Chandler, 23, in the comments.

Bindi told her 3.6 million fans on Instagram that she and Chandler were expecting their first child on August 12, writing, “Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021.”

Holding up a tiny infant-sized khaki Australia Zookeeper outfit, the Queenslander posed alongside her US-born husband for an adorable photo.

Bindi revealed that she was in her first trimester, meaning that their little bundle of joy is expected to arrive around February next year.

A day after their baby news broke, grandma-to-be Terri, 56, took to Twitter to share her excitement but said she wished her late husband, Steve Irwin, was there to share the special time with them.

Bindi and Chandler’s road to parenthood

Bindi and Chandler first met back in 2013, after the star took his family on a private tour of Australia Zoo in Queensland.

However, they didn’t start dating until July 2015, after Chandler reached out to Terri and asked if he could take Bindi out — they’ve been inseparable ever since.

The loved-up Aussie told the Australian Women’s Weekly in an interview in 2017 that she believes her late dad, Steve Irwin, would have approved of Chandler.

“Mum and Robert and I have talked about that a lot. We think dad would have loved Chandler,” she said.

On March 25th, Bindi and Chandler married in a ‘small ceremony’ at Australia Zoo after being forced to move everything forward due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Bindi explained on her Instagram account how the couple had to dash to tie the knot before restrictions come into effect in Australia, which only allowed five people to be present.

“There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding.

“This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos.”

She added that her mum Terri had helped her get ready on the day and her brother Robert walked her down the aisle in her dad’s place.

“Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory. We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other. To everyone reading this - stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS,” she finished.

And after five months of wedded bliss, Bindi and Chandler announced that they were expecting their first bub in 2021.
