Week 23 of your Pregnancy

You

This is a good time to stop a minute and pat yourself on the back – you’re doing really well. You will have gained at least 5 kg so far, and each week you will add at least another 225g until right at the end of pregnancy. Are you getting some unusual food cravings? Ice cream with pickles? Some women even crave chalk! Rest assured, cravings are quite normal, but do make sure that you continue to follow a well balanced, nutritious diet most of the time.

It’s common to also be having some trouble with haemorrhoids. These are due to the extra weight you are carrying around as well as from straining due to constipation in pregnancy. To minimise constipation, make sure you eat plenty of fibre rich food and drink ample water.

Baby

Your future bundle of joy measures about 20 cm from head to toe. His pancreas, which is essential for the production of insulin, is developing and his eyebrows and eyelids have formed. Your baby’s face is now much more human-looking and his features quite apparent.
