Week 14 of your Pregnancy

You

You’re probably starting to get into maternity clothes now (or at least some loose-fitting outfits). You should expect your skinny jeans to gather dust till baby is at least three to six months old – and that’s totally fine, don’t forget to embrace your glorious fertile curves!

Your hormones have probably settled down a bit now, and you’re probably feeling a lot more emotionally stable. Those hormones have other effects though; they can increase skin pigmentation, so you may get a ‘linea nigra’ which is a dark line that runs from your belly button to pubis, or you may get a patch of pigmentation on your face, called known as chloasma.

As your skin expands to accommodate your growing belly, you may also develop tiny purplish ‘stretch mark’ lines on your breasts, hips, tummy and bottom. While pigment marks usually disappear a month or two after birth, stretch marks are more likely to fade to a silvery-white colour than disappear completely.

Baby

Your baby is now between 8cm and 9cm long (about a third of that is his head!) and he weighs around 25 grams. He is starting to get a little control over his hands and can move them about. His neck is growing longer and he can now start to lift his head from his chest a little bit. His heartbeat can now be clearly heard through a Doppler, and his tiny heart beats at about twice the normal rate of an adult.
