Week 13 of your Pregnancy

You

Well, you’re officially now in the 2nd trimester and you’re already one third of the way into your pregnancy.

Most women (but unfortunately not all) stop feeling nauseous and fatigued and start to feel energised and buoyant once again. And while your uterus has expanded considerably, it isn't so large that it impedes your movement and affects your sleep. This is a good time to enjoy the healthy benefits of taking a walk or swim. Regular low-level physical activity helps many pregnant women by boosting muscle strength and releasing stress. Check with your doctor - while exercise is beneficial for most expectant women, it may be discouraged in certain circumstances. And consider finding a local exercise class such as yoga for pregnant women. Not only is it good for your physical health but also your emotional health, you will have a chance to meet other new mothers and who knows – your babies may become friends!

Nasal congestion is common at this stage, as are earaches and bleeding gums, as the blood supply to all your mucous membranes and soft tissue increases.

Baby

Your baby is around 7 to 8cm long now and weighs between 20 and 25 grams. He can now suck and swallow and his neck is getting longer. His spleen has started to develop and he is now producing bone marrow. He’s even developing his own unique fingerprints.
