Best shopping locations: Prenzlauer Berg and Kreuzberg.
Apsara in Berlin.
Best dining experience: Eating my way through the Turkish Markets for savory and sweet delicacies. Also, one can’t miss Mr. Vuong for delicious modern Vietnamese.
Must see: The Reichstag, the Jewish holocaust memorial and for those who love vintage fashion – you cannot miss Humana (a 5 story department store dedicated to all things vintage).
Highlight / don’t miss: Bear Pit Karaoke at Mauer Park on a Sunday – grab a seat in the open air amphitheater and cheer on strangers who are courageous enough to take the stage and sing. Also don’t miss the Clärchens Ballhaus in Mitte – a quirky old school ballroom which hosts dance parties every night from salsa to tango to ballroom. You can have dinner and watch or join in after a few wines!
Top tip: Take the 3 hour Sandeman’s tour of Berlin – it’s free and absolutely essential to get bearings on landmark sites and learn the little things you won’t read about in your travel guide.
Budget (Splurge or Steal): Definitely steal!
