Directed by Lorena Ares, “Hanna and the Monsters” unspools in a hidden world where monsters hide from humans that they fear. The monster’s world is thrown into upheaval when four-year-old Hanna finds a portal to Monsterville in her closet.
In Cannes this week, Pink Parrot will also launch world sales (outside of Spain) for the newly acquired second film in a planned trilogy for the franchise, “Hanna and the Forgotten Christmas.” Currently in production, the sequel will be ready for distribution in the first quarter of 2025.
“Forgotten Christmas” marks the feature directorial debut of Elena Ruiz, who served as editor on “Hanna and the Monsters.” Ruiz is a Spanish Academy Goya and Catalan Academy Gaudí Award-winning editor who worked on J.A. Bayona’s tsunami thriller “The Impossible” and modern Spanish horror classic “The Orphanage,” as well as the Netflix series “Alma” and “Bandidos.”
In the sequel, Hanna and the monsters head home for Christmas. But when Gargoyle tries to control the festivities, he accidentally erases Christmas from everyone’s memories. To undo the damage, the group sets out to find the missing Spirit of Christmas, who holds the key to restoring the holiday.
Said Tania Pinto Da Cunha, partner, VP and head of international sales and acquisitions at Pink Parrot: “Across our slate, we’re committed to bringing magical, humorous and adventurous stories that will bring the whole family together – and the ‘Hanna and the Monsters’ trilogy is perfectly suited to deliver just that. We’ve had a fantastic response to the first installment already, and can’t wait to share the new follow-up with our partners, which we believe has the potential to become a festive family favorite around the world.”
On Friday, May 17, Pink Parrot will host Cannes market screenings for several films from its slate, including “Elli and Her Monster Team,” “Superklaus” and “Norbert.”
