Pete Davidson has been in the painful process of parting ways with his hundreds of tattoos, all in the name of a clean slate.

The actor and comedian, 31, recently appeared on Jimmy Fallon's late-night show and detailed the process of "burning off" the 200 tattoos he's accumulated over the years. "They're almost gone," said Davidson, calling the removal process "horrible."

"They gotta burn off a layer of your skin, and then it has to heal for like six to eight weeks, and you can't get in the sunlight, and then you gotta do it like 12 more times," the Saturday Night Live alum said of the prolonged process, quipping, "So really think about that Game of Thrones tattoo you're thinking of getting, alright?"

Davidson said he had about 200 tattoos at one point. "I was a sad boy," he said. "It was a weird time." He later added, "Yeah, I don't know. Everybody was getting tattoos like five years ago. Do you remember that? Post Malone [had one that said], 'Always tired.' I was like, 'Yeah, me too, dude.'"

The comedian added that he intended to keep about two or three from his once-expansive collection, "but I'm trying to clean slate it. Trying to be an adult."

It's unclear which method of tattoo removal Davidson has undergone, but the most common is laser removal. One such method that falls under that category and aligns with Davidson's graphic description is ablative lasers, defined by the FDA as lasers that burn off the top layer of skin. Davidson's former tattoos have included tributes to ex-girlfriends, a portrait of Hillary Clinton, and homages to Harry Potter.

Davidson appeared on Fallon's show to chat about Peacock's new docuseries special celebrating 50 years of SNL. In his best impression of Bill Hader, Davidson told the host it was the comedian who recommended him to Lorne Michaels for the show. "He got me in," said Davidson. "And then I auditioned, did standup, and somehow got it."

Davidson appeared as a cast member between 2014 and 2022. On the docuseries, titled SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, the comedian spoke candidly about suffering from imposter syndrome and imploring Michaels to give him the axe. "After my first year, I actually called for a meeting with Lorne. I was like, 'Please fire me,'" recalled Davidson in the doc. "I was like, 'I don't belong here. Everybody here is so talented and they don't want to be my friend.' I was a child."

But Michaels had assured him that "you don't figure it out until your third or fourth year" and that it would "suck for like three or four years." And "he was right," added Davidson.
