Applebee's Has People Going Wild For "Splitting The A," And It's Actually A Really Fun Concept
Applebee's is an iconic drinking spot. There's nothing quite like sitting in a booth with your closest friends, snacking on a plate of spinach and artichoke dip, and sipping on the most neon green drink you've ever had in your life. (I mean, people loved the Dollarita for this very reason.)
Now, the restaurant has made a name for itself for another drinking-related trend, and it's the perfect excuse to round up your friends.
The trend is called "Splitting the A," and it might sound a little familiar. It's a play on the term "Splitting the G" — which you may hear most commonly on St. Paddies Day. (For fans of Chicken Shop Date, "Splitting the G" was also mentioned in Paul Mescal's episode.
"Splitting the G" is a drinking challenge that requires a pint of Guinness and pure talent — the goal is to take the first sip of beer and have the line between the liquid and the foam fall directly in the middle of the "G" of the Guinness logo.
It's apparently a lot more difficult than it sounds. There are no second tries allowed, so you have to perfectly split the G with the first sip. According to Reddit, some bars have made it a thing where people can "split the G and get a free shot" or "get the Guinness free."
Now, people have brought the same trend to Applebee's, and it's become a thing on social media.
If you look closely, every Applebee's beer glass has a horizontal logo that can be split in half, just like the "G" in "Guinness."
People on TikTok are even taking the trend a step further and turning it into a competition with their friends, making the loser of each challenge cover the bill for the table. "This is your sign to take your roomies to Applebees and challenge them to split the A (loser pays)," one TikTok caption reads.
Side note: Where can I sign up to be part of this friend group?
In another video, a group of friends is shown attempting the challenge. Let's just say they didn't have the best luck.
Honestly, same though.
I know I definitely wouldn't be able to Split the A (or the G for that matter) on the first try, but maybe your odds are slightly better. At the very least, now you have something fun to do with your friends the next time you're at Applebee's.
