Who Pays For 'Home Town Takeover'? Here's Everything We Know
From Wetumpka, Alabama, to Fort Morgan, Colorado, and now Sebring, Florida, Home Town Takeover never fails to impress HGTV fans with each season. Erin and Ben Napier are no strangers to full small-town makeovers, but fans still have some burning questions about the show. One of the biggest: Who pays for the ambitious "takeovers"?
If you've ever wondered who picks up the bill for the renovations and curated design pieces, well, you're not alone. As a matter of fact, you're in luck because we did some digging and here's what we know so far about who covers the costs for Home Town Takeover.
Home and business owners pay for their renovations.
Donations from each town are added up to help offset costs for businesses and homeowners.
Towns can use grants and federal funding opportunities to contribute to the total cost of the "takeovers."
Contrary to popular belief, HGTV doesn't pick up the bill for their hit TV series. The renovation costs are typically paid by participating homeowners and business owners. While prices can vary, towns often make donations and accept grants to help contribute to renovation costs. It's truly a collaborative effort when Home Town Takeover chooses your town.
According to The Fort Morgan Times, when the six-episode series came to their town in 2023, city officials even waived certain permit fees to help alleviate total costs of renovations. Donations from the city of Fort Morgan added up to $49,000, with additional grant funding, road maintenance costs, and contributions of staff time.
While costs per business or home can range between $25,000 to upwards of $75,000, the small towns that each season focuses on see the HGTV show as a major investment for their community. "It is free advertising for our community," Fort Morgan Mayer Lyn Deal told The Fort Morgan Times. "I believe because of this project, we will realize monied from people outside the city, people who will come here and spend dollars in our community."
Now that season 3 of Home Town Takeover is in full swing, the town of Sebring, Florida, is surely experiencing the same excitement that the Fort Morgan community felt. Although costs can appear daunting, when towns come together to help their community it turns into something beautiful for generations to enjoy—the essence of what Erin and Ben Napier's hit series aims to do for small towns across the country.
