Paul Weller launches scathing attack on The Cure frontman Robert Smith

Paul Weller has hit out at The Cure frontman Robert Smith and said he "doesn't like" him.

The former Jam star launched a scathing attack on his contemporary after Smith's music was brought up by an interviewer for Record Collector magazine.

Weller said: “I can’t f***ing stand them. F***ing fat c***, with his lipstick and all that b******s. He is my age as well, isn’t he?”

He continued his tirade: “I don’t like him. There you go. There’s someone I wouldn't work with. I’d f***ing slap him, or something.”

It is unknown where Weller's dislike of Smith comes from though The Cure frontman did once criticise the punk movement and named The Jam singer.

Smith said: “Even people who think they’re socially aware and lend their names to things, like Paul Weller and stuff… I mean it does no good at all, ultimately. Because you’d have to be particularly stupid to believe someone like Paul Weller."

He did add: “You’d have to be particularly stupid to believe someone like me.”

Smith has not responded to Weller's comments and The Cure are currently on tour in Europe where they have debuted a number of new tracks.

Earlier in the year, Smith teased a new Cure album which would be their 14th and first since 2008's 4:13 Dream.

“It’s got artwork, it’s got a running order, it’s almost done," he said.

Meanwhile, Weller recently teamed up with Madness frontman Suggs for the single 'Ooh Do U Fink U R' after his last album Fat Pop (Volume 1) went to number one in the UK charts. It was Weller's sixth solo number one album.

Weller also reached number one with both The Jam and The Style Council.
