Paralympics athletes participate in amputee fashion show

Tokyo celebrated Paralympic athletes with its “Amputee Venus Show.“

The fashion show took place the day the Paralympic Games was originally scheduled for but has since been postponed due to the pandemic. Instead, the competitors, many of them amputees, strutted their stuff on a catwalk sporting trendy prosthetics.

The models had prosthetic legs with LED lights and other aesthetically cool upgrades. Kaede Maegawa, who placed fourth in the women’s long jump at the 2016 Paralympics, was among them.

“When I was rehearsing, I felt like I was attending the opening ceremony and almost cried. The show was such a great opportunity for me,” Maegawa told the Associated Press.

The show was organized by Takao Ochi, who was inspired by the Covid-19 outbreak to create the event.

“One of the purposes of holding the fashion show was to overcome the coronavirus,” Ochi told the Associated Press.”The virus has been spreading and expanding and I really wish the pandemic will be ended soon. I want Paralympians to perform their best here, that’s what I wish for.”

The Paralympics will take place on August 24, 2021, where 4,400 athletes will compete. The Olympics is scheduled for a month earlier.
