Although my shoe rack is currently overflowing, it’s loafers, boots, and chunky sneakers you’ll find crowding the lineup—not heels. For me, it’s a comfort thing; I prefer to walk everywhere and dislike wearing anything that prevents me from doing so. Still, even I can admit that every closet needs at least one go-to heel option. And last week, Eva Longoria made a strong case for black slingback pumps, which I’m now convinced are the perfect one-and-done pair.

During an appearance on The Today Show, the actress paired her sleek shoes with a gray collared jacket, matching skirt, and loose, tousled curls. Beginners like me may want to dip their toes into slingback territory with a pair of dainty kitten heels, such as this elegant leather style from Sam Edelman.
