Outrage over 'disgusting' Prince George cartoon: 'Shame on them'

A satirical animated series, depicting Prince George as a tyrant eight-year-old obsessed with social media, has caused outrage online.

The Prince debuted on HBO Max over the weekend, with the spoof cartoon portraying the UK royals as a dysfunctional family, with the youngest of them, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, featuring heavily in the show.

At one point, Prince George is heard calling the Queen “such a bad b****" after she shoots an aide who startled her.

However, royal fans have been left outraged by the series, with many saying it is a step too far for a family who already weather so much attention.

“I think it’s awful. These are little kids growing up. They are going to have a tough enough time when they are adults. It’s so hypocritical of Hollywood, who push for child privacy to so publicly make fun of these kids,” one person said on Instagram.

“Totally unacceptable,” another person wrote, with one commenter online saying: “Children are off limits, period.”

“Do not understand why this ever got off the ground, wrong on so many levels. Shame on them,” a royal fan wrote.

“It's so disgusting and revolting. all of it,” another said.

Royal author Angela Levin agreed, telling The Sun: “It is appalling and incredibly bad taste to mock and depict Prince George and Louis and Charlotte.

“They are young children who need protecting and this is totally unnecessary.

“It is going much too far. They are bound to see it and it is unfair to do this to children.”

Family Guy producer Gary Janetti - who is known for his satirical take on Prince George’s life on his Instagram page - is the man behind the series.

“I’m thrilled to be working at HBO Max and bringing them yet another series about a family ruthlessly fighting for the throne,” Gary told Deadline back in January.

It's believed the series was supposed to air earlier this year, however it was pushed back due to the death of Prince Philip in April.

Orlando Bloom voices Prince Harry on the show, whose character is shown trying to navigate his new life in California.

In one scene Harry and Meghan are seen visiting an apartment, with the Prince calling it the “smallest palace” he had ever been in.

When Prince Harry was told he was in an apartment, his character says: “I know that. Lots of tiny palaces inside one big palace”.

Orlando Bloom is neighbours with Prince Harry in Santa Barbara and told The Hollywood Reporter back in August 2020 that his girlfriend, Katy Perry, convinced him to do the show.

"I’m a British boy who’s very proud of my roots. I understand how the royal family is loved by some and loathed by others, and I’ve always understood it as part of my heritage and background," he said.

"I’m not someone who wants to poke fun at anyone normally, but this was so clever, witty and affectionately done. Actually Katy (Perry) saw one bit of it and was like, ‘You’ve got to do this. This is genius.’ And the animation is done by some of the guys who did Family Guy, so it’s going to be very amusing. And who doesn’t love the royal family?”

Sophie Turner voices Princess Charlotte in the show, with Iwan Rheon voicing Prince William and Condola Rashad as Meghan Markle.
