Oscars Nominations Delayed Again Due to L.A. Fires, Ceremony Still Set for March

This year's Oscar nominations will now be revealed Thursday, Jan. 23

The timeline leading up to the Oscars is shifting in response to the wildfires that continue to devastate Hollywood and the Southern California area.

Due to the impact of the fires, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday, Jan. 13 that its schedule of events this award season will be reconfigured.

The nominations voting period is now extended through Friday, Jan. 17. The announcement of the nominations (originally scheduled for this Friday, Jan. 17) will now happen Thursday, Jan. 23, at 8:30 a.m. ET and be a virtual event with no in-person media.

Additionally, the annual Oscars nominees luncheon, scheduled for Feb. 10, is canceled, and the Scientific and Technical Awards, slated for Feb. 18, will be rescheduled to a later date.

As of now, the 97th Academy Awards will still be held Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, televised live at 7 p.m. ET on ABC and streaming on Hulu.

“We are all devastated by the impact of the fires and the profound losses experienced by so many in our community," said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang in a statement. "The Academy has always been a unifying force within the film industry, and we are committed to standing together in the face of hardship."

"Our members always share how important it is for us to come together as a community, and we are determined to use this opportunity to celebrate our resilient and compassionate industry," they added.

"We also look forward to honoring our frontline workers who have aided with the fires, recognizing those impacted, and encouraging people to join the Academy in supporting the relief efforts. We will get through this together and bring a sense of healing to our global film community."

PEOPLE has learned the Academy has donated $750,000 to MPTF to help those affected.

Conan O'Brien, this year's Oscars host, marked himself safe amid the fires on Jan. 11 and wrote on Instagram: "Our hearts are with those affected by this ongoing situation. Please stay safe.

The Critics Choice Awards, which were originally scheduled for Jan. 12, have been postponed to Sunday, Jan. 26, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

The 2025 Grammy Awards are still happening on Sunday, Feb. 2 in L.A. with a fundraising component to support wildfire relief efforts.

The unprecedented wildfires began Tuesday, Jan. 7 and spread throughout the L.A. area, destroying countless homes and displacing locals. As of Jan. 12, officials said the death toll has so far reached 24.
