Oscars 2024: Best Actress awarded to Emma Stone

And the Oscar goes to...

It has been an amazing year of film and an especially competitive awards season, and we've finally reached a category where Oppenheimer is nowhere to be seen!

When it comes to Best Actress, it's a tough category. Emma Stone is a fan favourite this year for her wacky portrayal of Bella in Poor Things, while Lily Gladstone seriously impressed in Killers of the Flower Moon. Sandra Hüller was in two of the Best Picture nominated films, and was nominated as Best Actress for Anatomy of a Fall, but she was also excellent in Zone of Interest.

It's been a pretty split race between Emma and Lily this awards season. Both women won in the Comedy and Drama categories at the Golden Globes, Emma won the BAFTA, and Lily took out the SAG award.

Sally Field, Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Yeoh, Charlize Theron and Jessica Lange presented the award for Best Actress, sharing kind words about each of the nominees.

Emma Stone won the award, with the star telling the audience that her dress was broken, joking that it must have happened during Ryan Gosling's performance of 'I'm Just Ken'.

She mentioned all her fellow nominees and said that she shared the award with them and everyone who worked on Poor Things.

"Yorgos [Lanthimos], thank you for the gift of a lifetime," Emma said of her role as Bella Baxter.

Yahoo Lifestyle's predictions

Before watching the Oscars, here were our predictions for who would win the award:

Marni - I was obsessed with Emma Stone's performance, so I'd love to see her win Best Actress for Poor Things.

Lachlan - I’d love to see the three-and-a-half-hour thriller Killers of The Flower Moon or hilariously inappropriate dramedy Poor Things win Best Picture. These two films also feature my equal frontrunners for Best Actress, Lily Gladstone and Emma Stone, who each won their respective Golden Globe categories

Lyndsey - I'm going to say Lily Gladstone, because from what I've heard, it would be a crime if she didn't get it. However, no plans to see the film, because who has three and a half hours to spare?
