Oreo's Latest Collaboration May Give You Brain Freeze
It'll pair perfectly with its new cookie.
Oreo is on a roll with collabs lately. Everyone’s favorite sandwich cookie keeps mixing it up by combining its chocolate and vanilla goodness with other brands. Just this year, it’s hung out with Betty Crocker in baking mixes, showed up in Jack in the Box desserts, topped Auntie Anne’s pretzel nuggets, and even added Sour Patch Kids to its iconic cookie.
Last month, in a collaboration we didn’t see coming, Oreo announced it was teaming up with Coca-Cola for Oreo Coca-Cola Sandwich Cookies and Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar soda, both limited-time offerings that should be showing up on store shelves any day now.
Now, we've learned that the Coca-Cola and Oreo collaboration (which is launching September 9) has a third treat coming, but you'll have to head to 7-Eleven to experience the new drink.
Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar Slurpee Launching at 7-Eleven
Oreo is no stranger to the category of “things that can give you brain freeze.” The brand already makes ice cream, ice cream bars, and ice cream cookie sandwiches with Oreo pieces in them. It often shows up in Dairy Queen Blizzards, too. But the newest Oreo treat coming to 7-Eleven stores will contain no cookie pieces—that would have clogged up 7-Eleven’s Slurpee machines when customers stick their cups under to get an icy cold Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar Slurpee.
The drink, described as an exciting spin on the fan-favorite Coca-Cola Slurpee, combines the classic taste of a crisp and fizzy soda with hints of Oreo flavor. It's available exclusively at 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores nationwide for a limited time.
"We are thrilled to join forces with Coca-Cola and Oreo to create a one-of-a-kind Slurpee drink experience that delights and excites our consumers," said Dennis Phelps, senior vice president of merchandising at 7-Eleven. "We're bringing together the snack aisle and the Slurpee drink machine to give everyone a reason to head to our stores for a delicious, unforgettable moment."
This isn’t the first unexpected Slurpee collaboration to hit 7-Eleven in recent months. In July, the convenience store teamed up with Hostess for Cherry Twinkies filled with lightly whipped Cherry Slurpee-flavored crème filling.
You can’t get brain freeze from a Twinkie, but the latest Slurpee collaboration is sure to induce it in many slurpers. But sometimes a treat is worth the brain freeze.
