Onitsuka Tiger Spring 2025: The History Squad

Andrea Pompilio looked back to the fashion of past decades for a commercial collection that was stylish, practical and youthful.

He’s clearly designing for Gen Z, a generation that doesn’t mind wearing pre-loved clothes, rented ones or even hand-me-downs, and a cohort that’s fascinated by how their parents — and older generations — lived and dressed.

So why not mine the 1990s and 1920s, two stylish decades that were dominated by youth culture?

This polished, coed collection wrapped together grunge and glamour, with models wearing long black dresses or lacy skirts under chunky fishermen knit cardigans, or button-front thermal T-shirts under oversize black top coats.

Pompilio paired many of these looks with stompy boots, or big fuzzy clogs that looked as if they’d been swiped from a Yeti’s closet.

He also looked further back, to the 1920s, for a lineup of bejeweled flapper-style dresses, including swingy black and smoky gray styles, and slinky slips in taupe and mimosa yellow.

A series of skirts with ultra-high slits, lace details and covered buttons were adorable, especially when paired with those chunky or slouchy knits. Still, they would have made great-grandma blush. Pompilio should have this much fun every season.
