She was the last woman left standing in the Australian Ninja Warrior grand final, but fan favourite Olivia Vivian was left heartbroken when a momentary ‘freak out’ saw her fall two obstacles short of the final stage of the competition.

Olivia had made it through all but the last two obstacles of stage one of the grand final on Sunday night when she lost her footing on a mini trampoline and ended up in the water.

She’s since learnt that she tore part of her hamstring off of her knee at some point during the ill-fated run.

Things were going smoothly for Olivia initially, with host Ben Fordham highlighting that the 30-year-old from Perth was “on track to make history again”.

“She could be the first woman through to stage 2 of a grand final,” Ben said from the sidelines.

Olivia even poked her tongue out shortly before her miss-step, prompting Rebecca Maddern to say she is “looking so confident”.

But that’s when things started to fall apart. Looking at the clock, Olivia realised she had 60 seconds to complete the final two obstacles and in a bizarre twist, completely missed the mini tramp.

“Oh no! Olivia Vivian,” Ben called. “She freaked out as she was rushing towards that trampoline and then she changed her mind and tried to put it in reverse, but it was too late she found herself in the water.”

“Devastated,” was all Rebecca could say as she clutched her mouth in shock.

Dubbed one of the “superstars of Australian Ninja Warrior”, Olivia was understandably shattered by her mistake.

“I‘m heartbroken, I felt my leg go and I almost wanted to not go because I was going to face-plant but the momentum was too much,” Olivia said after her run.

Looking to the future

Her fans took to Twitter to share their heartbreak, but also their congratulations for the last woman left standing.

“Next year Olivia,” one fan wrote.

“So pleased you got as far as you did,” another shared.

Shocking injury

After her devastating final run, Olivia has since revealed she saw the medic and specialists in Perth, and realised she'd actually torn part of her hamstring off of her knee.

“The morning after and I just had this very unusual bump coming out of my knee which was very strange,” she told Nine.

“There was an explanation, but it didn't at all relieve that heartbreak.”
