Nine announces Brooke Boney's replacement on Today after shock resignation
Nine has revealed who will fill Brooke's shoes after she leaves the show to study at Oxford University.
Nine has announced who will replace Brooke Boney on Today after the presenter announced earlier this year that she will leave the show to study at Oxford University in the UK.
Jayne Azzopardi, who co-hosts Weekend Today with Clint Stanaway, will be joining the weekday team in a week's time, Mumbrella reports, revealing the news was sent to staff via email by Steven Burling, Nine's director of morning television.
Jayne is an accomplished journalist and will cover the news side of things, with Steven revealing that in order to cover the entertainment side of Brooke's job, Renee Bargh will join Today "more regularly", working alongside Richard Wilkins.
Renee will be working on the show "at least a couple of days a week" initially, with Steven adding, "Over the past couple of years Renee has been filling in on Today over summers and has quickly become part of our team."
In a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle, Steven confirmed the news, saying: "We're thrilled to welcome Jayne Azzopardi, one of Nine's most accomplished journalists, to Today in the news chair. Jayne has covered politics in Canberra, reported on major news events, and co-hosted Weekend Today. Joining her is Renee Bargh, known for her career at Channel [V] and as a correspondent for EXTRA in LA, to cover the entertainment round alongside Dickie. We're privileged to have Jayne and Renee join our team at Today."
Brooke Boney announces shock resignation live on-air
Brooke surprised viewers in March when she announced live on-air that she will be leaving the Channel Nine breakfast show.
The presenter, who has been with Today for five years, teared up as she shared that she will be moving overseas later this year.
“Guys, I have some very big news for you this morning,” she began. “I have been offered a place at Oxford University later this year, which means I’ll be leaving the show after the Olympics.
“I don’t want to go into too much right now because there’ll be plenty of time for goodbyes and thank yous, but I just wanted to share that good/bad news with you all this morning.”
Brooke went on to share that it’s always been a dream of hers to study at an overseas university and now feels like the right time to take that step.
“I’m so grateful to come in here every day and I love you all so much, so it’s made the decision really difficult,” she added. “But it just means that you’ll all have to plan trips to the UK to come and visit me.”
Brooke shared on Today that she will be studying a Master of Public Policy when she attends Oxford University in September.

“I thought this is sort of what fits best with my journalistic career thus far,” she explained. “I thought if I don’t do this now, then I’m probably never going to. I am at that age where if I leave now and go and study and come back, I’ll still only be 38.”
Brooke joined Today in 2019 as an entertainment presenter before becoming the show’s news presenter in January 2023. Before this, she worked as a political correspondent for NITV and was the newsreader on Triple J from 2016 to 2018.
She also graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with a Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) in 2014.
