Nicole Kidman slammed over controversial Balenciaga campaign: 'Do better'
"Sad that you are still supporting this company."
Nicole Kidman has been slammed on social media after revealing she's the new face of controversial brand Balenciaga.
The brand was forced to apologise in 2022 after they released a photoshoot that saw children holding teddy bears wearing what was described as "BDSM-inspired" gear. One photo also showed a child model lying on a couch with empty glasses of wine nearby, with some social media users suggesting it looked as though the child was drunk. Some people also pointed out that some of the teddy bears appeared to have black eyes.
The brand admitted “a series of grievous errors for which Balenciaga takes responsibility” over the campaign, with the label's creative director, Demna Gvasalia, saying the images were "wholly inconsistent with our values".

However, just over a year after the controversy, Nicole was announced as their newest ambassador during the brand's Fall 2024 show in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Hey Photographers :
When Balenciaga hires you to shoot their new lookbook & you show up to find a toddler laid across a sofa with wine glasses & bondage gear arranged around them, you walk away. Period. pic.twitter.com/DSoHgQLM6O— Hoop (@xhoop) November 21, 2022
The actress shared a series of snaps on Instagram, with many fans sharing their dismay at her partnership with Balenciaga.
"Sad that you are still supporting this company," one user said.
"No. You too. Did you forget?" another said. "This designer has been cancelled. They promote ads the public didn’t want. It was wrong."
"Guess the designer is no longer cancelled?" a third added.
However, others applauded the campaign, with Sophie Monk commenting, "Wow", while Vanessa Hudgens said she was "absolutely obsessed".

"Seriously? Come on Nic," one fan wrote. "Your better than this. UGH."
However, Nicole wasn't the only celebrity to attend Balenciaga's Los Angeles show, with Kim Kardashian, Salma Hayek, Samara Weaving, Eva Longoria, Kendall Jenner and Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz also in the crowd. Cardi B also appeared as a surprise model at the event.
