Nicole Kidman 'astounded' by the 'harsh' way women are judged

Nicole Kidman says she’s always surprised by the “harsh” way “women are judged” in Hollywood.

The 51-year-old actress plays Erin Bell in Destroyer and says the action movie offers a “gritty and raw and totally authentic” look at her character who doesn’t adhere to traditional beauty ideals.

“A lot of times if you are going to be a female in an action film, they want you to look gorgeous, be bad-ass, be capable of firing guns and doing high kicks and still having lipstick and being svelte and being in a whole different class of action hero,” Nicole said in an interview with the Guardian.

“I’m always astounded at the harsh way in which women are judged, and I shouldn’t be. I should know that by now, but it is what it is.”

The Aquaman actress went on to explain that although she has hope things will change in “maybe 20 years time”, she’s desperate to “carve a path for the next generation” of women and help change the cultural landscape for the better.

It comes after reports emerged that Tom Cruise has reportedly banned Nicole from attending her adopted son, Connor Cruise’s, wedding.

Connor Cruise, 24, plans to marry his Italian girlfriend Silvia, who has reportedly been named the “Scientologist Princess.”

“Tom is behind this and what he wants is as good as law,” a source told Radar Online.“Tom made the call and Connor followed.”

“First, Tom would never even consider inviting Nicole to Connor’s wedding because she’s considered a ‘suppressive person’ by the church — and, second, he doesn’t want her there.”

According to the source, Connor “worships the ground his father walks on,” and didn’t want to disobey him.

Kidman and Cruise were reportedly both absent from her daughter Isabella’s wedding to Max Parker in 2015.

When Kidman split from Cruise in 2001, she also left behind the Church of Scientology, of which Cruise is an outspoken advocate.

Kidman and Cruise were married from December 1990 to August 2001.

The Aussie actress went on to marry country signer Keith Urban in 2006, and they have two daughters, Sunnie, 10 and Faith, 8.

Cruise also has a daughter Suri, 12, from his marriage to Katie Holmes. The couple married in 2006.

Kidman has denied rumours of a rift with her adopted children as she hasn’t been seen with them, she caused a stir when she picked up an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in Limited Series or Movie in 2017.

The Australian actress, 51, gave an impassioned speech about her two daughters Sunday, 10, and Faith, eight, with husband Keith Urban, but failed to mention Isabella and Connor.

“They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them,”she later told Who.

“And I am an example of that tolerance and that’s what I believe – that no matter what your child does, the child has love and the child has to know there is available love and I’m open here.”
