Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra 'engaged' after two months of dating
You probably have cereal that’s been sitting in your pantry longer than Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra have been a couple, but the two are reportedly engaged after just two months of dating.
For the record, that’s the third quickie celebrity engagement this summer. (We’re looking at you, Justin Bieber, Hailey Baldwin, Pete Davidson, and Ariana Grande.)
Jonas is “very, very happy,” a source told People.
“His friends and family have never seen him like this, and they’re all really excited for him. He’s definitely very serious about her.”
The singer and the Quantico star met last year and stayed in touch, according to People, but things only got more serious recently. They’ve met each other’s families and have been spotted on a few dates here and there.
Fans predictably freaked out about the news on Twitter:
Nick Jonas is getting married.. but tiger beat magazine told me I was compatible with him and that we would get married someday? I’m shocked and appalled this didn’t work for me.

News of Jonas’s speedy engagement comes less than three weeks after Bieber confirmed his engagement to Baldwin (after a few weeks of rekindling their on-and-off romance) and a little more than a month after Grande and Davidson announced that they were engaged (after just a few weeks of dating).

What’s going on with this trend?
It’s possible that all of these engagements are merely a ploy to get publicity, licensed clinical psychologist Ramani Durvasula, author of Should I Stay or Should I Go?, tells Yahoo Lifestyle, or it may just be that some celebrities don’t take the idea of engagement and marriage as seriously as everyone else. “For celebrities for whom divorce is not financially devastating in the way it is for us mere mortals, maybe a wedding is just a big fancy party for their relationship,” she says.
It’s pretty clear that celebrities don’t do things like everyone else, but these engagements are still pretty hasty, Durvasula says. Celebrities may spend less time with their significant others than the nonfamous due to travel and work schedules, she points out, and they often don’t have to deal with the day-to-day stressors that can really test relationships. “In this way, many celebrity romances aren’t built to withstand real life,” she says.
Plenty of people have lamented these engagements on social media and pointed out that their own relationships are moving at a much slower pace, but Durvasula says it’s important to put this in perspective. “While it may be fun to peer into the lives of celebrities for a minute, their lives are entertainment,” she says. “And no more than we are going to strap ourselves to a rocket ship and saunter off into space, or climb Mount Everest or anything else we have ever seen in a movie, are we going to live their lives. As such, their personal decisions and timelines do not really become meaningful timelines for the rest of us.”
If all of these quickie engagements are making you envious, Durvasula recommends thinking of it this way: You can enjoy the shock value, obsess over the rings chosen, and look at the whole thing as another form of entertainment. But when it comes to your own life, it’s 100 percent OK — and even advised — to take a little longer to get engaged.
