Wills and Kate finally set the date!

Kate and Wills are engaged!

It has been the most anticipated wedding in royal history, but the wait is nearly over for Kate Middleton. With the date set and venue chosen, her days as ‘Waity Katie’ appear to be over.

According to the most solid reports to date, the wedding is set for just before Prince William’s 30th birthday on June 21, 2012 – which fits in with the deadline he set himself. ‘I don’t want to get married until I’m at least 28 or maybe 30,’ the prince once said.

It’ll be a memorable time for the monarchy, with celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee happening in June and the London Olympics starting on July 27.
‘The powers that be... see this as the perfect opportunity to secure the monarchy at the heart of the people at a time when media focus is on our country,’ a palace source tells the News of the World.

The insider, who correctly revealed the date of Charles and Camilla’s wedding, also said the Queen is hoping for a smaller royal wedding at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, as opposed to the grand pomp of Charles and Diana’s 1981 wedding at St Paul’s Cathedral.

William also wants to keep the wedding celebrations low-key. He has vetoed Westminster Abbey as a venue as his mother Diana had her funeral there 13 years ago.

Wills and Kate will have been dating for 10 years by the time they wed. And with only a few years left of being a regular citizen, Kate’s enjoying her freedom while it lasts. ‘Today they live in relative peace,’ the source says. ‘As soon as they wed they know Kate will become public property.’

Indeed, now a date’s been set, Kate is more than happy to wait, safe in the knowledge her dream of becoming William’s princess will finally be fulfilled. ‘There’s no doubt Kate is the right girl for William,’ the insider says. ‘Their future together is sealed.’

William the Godfather
Before he walks down the aisle, Wills has another happy duty set for St George’s Chapel to attend to – he’s going to be godfather to his cousin Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn’s (pictured left with William) first child. He’s already an experienced godfather – Wills first accepted the honour at 16, becoming godfather to Prince Konstantine Alexios of Greece.
