Wills and Kate bowl over Christchurch!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Christchurch today on Day 8 of the royal tour.

The royal couple started the day with a visit to the CTV memorial park where they paid their respects to the 185 people who died in the February 2011 earthquake.

Wills and Kate laid stones to honour those lost before mingling with the families affected by the tragedy.

Prince William visited Christchurch three-years ago when the central city was still cordoned off with red tape, and the people were still shaken from the magnitude 6.3 earthquake.

Kate wore a red skirt-suit by Luisa Spagnoli which she paired with black accessories, which are the colours of the Canterbury region.

The Duchess last wore this ensemble back in 2011 for a visit to St Andrew’s in Scotland, just three days after the devastating Christchurch earthquake.

From here it was off to a 2015 Cricket World Cup event to celebrate Christchurch as one of the host cities.

The competitive couple faced off against each other again, despite being in a skirt and three-inch heels, Kate still took to the pitch to have a hit.

According to onlookers, Wills took a run up as he bowled to his wife, taking "a wild full toss" which came close to hitting his wife in the head!

However it seems Wills won this round, bowling the ball to his wife who only managed to hit two out of three balls.

As Wills took his turn to bat he called out, “Be nice,” to the schoolchildren who were getting ready to bowl to him.

After the cricket, the royals headed to the Botanical Gardens where they officially opened the new $16.4 million visitor centre.

The royals then attended a lunch held by the Chamber of Commerce where they learnt more about Christchurch’s redevelopment plans.

And finally, they paid a visit to the city's Wall of Remembrance.

Over the weekend Prince William had the media buzzing when he was overheard talking to Cynthia Read, the woman who made the fine lace shawl that was New Zealand’s gift to George on his birth.

William thanked her for the gift and added: “You might have to make another one soon”.

Newcastle-born Mrs Read, who emigrated to New Zealand eight years ago, revealed: “The way William said it was like he was dropping a hint, letting me in on a secret”.

However, the pair’s exploits in Queenstown later that day made it pretty clear that Kate is not expecting, for now at least.

The Duchess joined William for a wine tasting at Queenstown's Amisfield Vineyard, where the pair tried a number of local reds and whites.

Kate was overheard saying that she is "really enjoying being able to drink again after having baby George".

The Duke and Duchess were also taken out on Queenstown's famous Shotover Jet, a turbulent speed boat ride that reaches speeds of up to 85km/h, as it screams down river water often just a few centimetres deep.
