Anne Hathaway wins Oscar!

She dreamed a dream - and it came true!

The 2013 Oscars are well underway, with recently married brunette beauty Anne Hathaway scooping up her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The star - who was nominated this year for her supporting role in the hit blockbuster musical Les Miserables - was previously nominated for Best Actress for her 2008 role in Rachel Getting Married, but has never scored an Academy Award, until now.

On the red carpet prior to her big win, the actress described how she has been affected by the whirlwind that has been her last few months in Hollywood:

"I’m just overjoyed, it’s a blessing. It’s as simple as that.

"I guess it really all begins with getting married. I found my soulmate and we committed ourselves to each other and it’s just the best thing ever.

"All of this has just been the cherry on top of a wonderful, wonderful dish of vegan ice cream."

The 30-year-old star, who cut off her long hair and lost almost 12 kg in three weeks for the role, beat out Supporting Actress nominees Amy Adams for her performance in The Master, Sally Field for her role in Lincoln, The Sessions star Helen Hunt and Aussie Silver Linings Playbook actress Jacki Weaver.

"I look up to you all so much and it’s been such an honour," she said of her fellow nominees.

On receiving her award, Anne thanked her husband Adam Shulman, saying:

"By far the greatest moment of my life was when you walked into it."
