Aussie Olympian Stephanie Rice returned home today following a Californian holiday that took a 'scary' turn when she had to be admitted for emergency surgery following appendicitis.
The 26-year-old, who was on a working holiday, posted a photo to her Instagram account of her arm with the IV and her hospital tag.
"Not the ideal end to my US trip but finally heading home," she wrote alongside the pic.
"I went to hospital 3 days ago with stomach pains which turned out to be appendicitis, which needed emergency surgery.

It was all a bit scary, more so being in a different country and not having anyone there but I was so overwhelmed with the support and generosity from my new American friends.
"I feel very blessed to have such lovely, warm and kind people in my life!!
"Thank you for all your help .. Now I can go home to mummy and daddy".
The former swimming champ, who has been open about her struggle to adapt to 'normal life' after her success in the pool, was on a working holiday, traveelling around California.
