Robert Downey Jr.'s son arrested

Robert Downey Jr.'s son, Indio Downey, has been arrested for possession of cocaine.

The 20-year-old actor was apprehended by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department in West Hollywood after a traffic stop on June 29.

According to People.com, Downey was a passenger in the car and smoking from a pipe at the time of his arrest.

He was taken in for possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to authorities.

His bail was posted for $10,000 and he was released shortly after midnight.

Robert - who struggled with his own drug addiction in the past and spent time in jail and rehab before successfully completing his court-ordered treatment program in 2002 - released a statement to Entertainment Tonight.

The 49-year-old actor said: "Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being."

He added: "We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."

A court date is set for August 29.
