Kate's ring worth ten times more than when Diana wore it

A new report has listed Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge's blue sapphire and diamond engagement ring as one of the most famous engagement rings in history.

The value of the oval blue sapphire, which was originally the engagement ring of Prince William's mother, the late Princess Diana, has increased more than ten-fold.

While it was once valued at $50,000 when originally purchased in 1981, it is now valued at a more than $500,000.

Jewellery expert Vashi Dominguez, who compiled the initial report, spoke about it on ITV's This Morning and said: "The Duchess of Cambridge's ring has appreciated more quickly than any other ring in the list."

He added: "It's Kate's style icon status that makes the ring so special."

The 32-year-old royal has the midas touch when it comes to upping the value of things.

The Duchess has seen multiple outfits of hers sell out in stores after she wears them - including a Diane Von Furstenberg dress which sold out in just eight minutes.

Other style icons that topped the list include reality star Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, First Lady Michelle Obama and Beyoncé.

Vashi explained: "All the rings are gorgeous and despite many of them being extremely expensive, they all represent something deeply personal.

"It's essentially about the bride-to-be's emotional connection, hence why the rings become precious heirlooms, passed down through generations - a tradition so beautifully upheld by the Royal Family."
