Tessa James breaks down over cancer battle

Aussie actress Tessa James was just 23 when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, an aggressive blood cancer, in September last year.

The Home and Away star, who left the show in 2011, put her career plans on hold, coming home from Los Angeles to begin chemotherapy in the battle for her life.

Now, with her chemo behind her -- Tessa finished in February this year -- and recovery in front of her, she's ready to tell her story.

Speaking to Sunday Night Tessa struggled to hold back the tears.

"No one should have to go through that," Tessa told the program.

In another interview snippet, the 24-year-old revealed the sad irony of her cancer battle.

"You'd see actresses and they seemed to always go through these hardships," Tessa reveals. "I always thought, 'Well, I don't have a story. My life's really great.'

"Yeah, I have a story now."
