Netflix star Busi Lurayi dies 'suddenly' at age 36: 'Unfair'

Hollywood star Busisiwe Lurayi, known for Netflix comedy series How to Ruin Christmas, has died ‘suddenly’ at just 36 years old.

Lurayi passed away at her South African home on Sunday, with the cause of death unknown.

The star’s South African talent agency announced her death in a statement released on their official Instagram account.

Alongside a picture of the star smiling in a brightly coloured outfit, the statement read: “We are deeply saddened to notify you of the passing of our beloved Busisiwe Lurayi. Busisiwe passed away suddenly and was pronounced dead at her residence on Sunday [July 10, 2022] by medical personnel.”

“The reason for her death is still unknown as we await the results of the autopsy report.

“We humbly request that you allow us as the family to come to terms with this tragic news. We thank you for the support that has been given so far and will provide further information as soon as it has been made available.”

Fans of her Netflix series took to social media to express their sadness, with one writing: “The star of ‘How to Ruin Christmas’. I’m in shock. May her soul rest in peace. She was a lovely actress.”

“Didn’t know Busi Lurayi personally except for on screen of course, but wow. Her death shook me. Dying at the prime of your career has to be the epitome of how unfair life is. How to Ruin Christmas will never be the same. Rest in glory, B,” another wrote.

“I can’t believe Busi Lurayi really passed on. How to Ruin Christmas was the first thing me and my boyfriend binged on as a couple and we never looked back. She was so talented, that series was amazing!” a third added.

The official Netflix account for South Africa also posted a dedication to the actress, along with two photos.

“An incredible light has gone out in the South African entertainment industry. We are deeply saddened by the passing of award-winning stage and screen actor Busi Lurayi. We will hold onto the laughs, the beauty and the moments of joy she brought us,” they wrote.
