Nelly Jokes He's Trying to 'Save' Baby Son Kareem from Mom Ashanti's Monthly Photoshoots Since His July Birth

Ashanti is celebrating each moment of son Kareem Kenkaide Haynes' life.

In an interview with Extra on the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards red carpet on March 17, the "Foolish" singer revealed she's done monthly photoshoots with Kareem since his birth in July 2024 — and her husband Nelly is trying to "save" him from having to participate.

The topic came up as the couple was asked about how they plan to celebrate their son's first birthday. "He done had eight [birthday parties]," said the rapper, 50. "Man, this boy had more birthday parties than me."

Ashanti, 44, interjected, "They're not birthday parties. They are photoshoots every birthday month. That's what it is."

"I've been trying to save him from the photoshoots," joked Nelly. "When he gets older and sees all of this, he's gonna be like..."

"He's gonna love it," said Ashanti with a laugh.

"Blackmail. I'm gonna love it for blackmail," added Nelly.

The "Hot in Herre" emcee was honored with the 2025 iHeartRadio Landmark Award during the ceremony, and Ashanti appeared on stage to present him with the trophy.

"This year marks the 25th anniversary of his groundbreaking album, Country Grammar. It topped the charge for six consecutive weeks and became one of the best selling hip-hop records of all time, and sold over 10 million albums," she told the crowd.

Ashanti added, "He created a movement shaped the culture and made history, doing it. I'm so proud to honor Country Grammar and the talented guy who made it my soulmate, my husband, Nelly, with the iHeart Radio Landmark Award."

In November, the "Always on Time" musician told PEOPLE it was "amazing" to have Kareem in their lives. "He's a blessing. He's an angel. My life is amazing right now. I'm super blessed, so happy. I'm insanely in love with him," she said.

She also joked that Kareem has Nelly's "temper" and added, "When the bottle isn't ready — oh, man."
